Our artist residency is the perfect professional development opportunity for creative individuals across the spectrum of experience. While this is a teaching-intensive program, artists benefit from time to research, focus and explore while living among a community of makers in this supportive and immersive environment. The ceramics program is our most vibrant program which offers long-term, 1-year residencies to help further its growth.

Residents will enjoy a range of studio options provided by our growing campus. There are two large studios where classes are held and a smaller private studio just for residents. We have dry materials, clay, a spray booth, and lots of wheels. There is an outdoor shelter that houses two raku kilns and a new Olson gas reduction kiln. In 2018 our new wood kiln was constructed at our rural location, where we hold 2-3 community firings per year. We have future plans to host an annual woodfire conference at the site.

In addition to developing a body of work, residents may participate in our sales and exhibition schedule. Year-long residents are given a solo show in our beautiful gallery at the completion of their term. Artists are encouraged to explore any and all facets of what we have to offer, including collaborative projects and grant-seeking.

Here at Access Arts, we strive to provide creative learning experiences for everyone. As an artist in residence your living quarters, a monthly kiln firing, a monthly monetary stipend, some materials, and 24/7 access to our facilities will be provided in exchange for a certain number of hours per week (dependent on live-in vs non-live-in positions) of service helping to teach classes and maintain studios.​

The residents are the heart of our wonderful and diverse community and we expect sincere investment in the growth of this community. Potlucks, informal critiques, and late night philosophical discussions are typical. Residents who participate wholeheartedly in the experience gain the greatest benefit from our program.
